Above-average rainfall forecast across Rwanda in mid-January 2026

During the second (2nd) dekad of January 2026 (from 11th to 20th), rainfall ranging from 20 to 150 mm is predicted across the country, and it is expected to be above the range of the Long-Term Mean (LTM) in mostly western parts of the country.

The LTM for the second dekad of January ranges from 10 to 95 mm. During this period, rainy days are expected to vary between three (3) and five (5) days, depending on the location.

Heavy rainfall ranging from 110mm to 150mm is expected in Western Province except eastern parts of Ngororero and Nyabihu Districts, Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru Districts, southern parts of Gisagara District, western parts of Huye, Nyanza and Ruhango Districts, western and northern parts of Musanze District, as well as northern parts of Burera, Gicumbi and Nyagatare Districts.

The rainfall expected in the remaining parts of the country will be slightly above the LTM.

The main factor influencing rainfall is the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) shifting from southern hemisphere to the Equatorial region, bringing increased moisture where Rwanda is located and the local effects that led to active weather conditions.

The daytime maximum temperature will range from 21°C to 29°C, while the night time minimum temperature is expected to range from 9°C to 18°C. Additionally, moderate to strong wind is expected to range from 6 m/s to 12 m/s across the country.
