Rwanda: Disastrous heavy rainfall expected in the next three days

The Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) has announced that between May 4th and 6th, 2025, there is expected to be heavy rainfall that may cause disasters in many parts of the country.

Meteo Rwanda reports that this rain will fall especially in the City of Kigali, the Northern Province, the Western Province, and in the districts of Muhanga, Nyaruguru, Nyamagabe, Huye, Rwamagana, Ngoma, and Kirehe.

“Based on the ten-day weather forecast released on April 30th, 2025, which shows increased rainfall between May 5th and May 10th, 2025, METEO RWANDA informs all Rwandans that from May 4th to May 6th, 2025, heavy rainfall is expected across Rwanda,” the Meteo Rwanda statement reads.

The agency says that during these three days, rainfall is expected to range between 20 and 50 millimeters per day.

Meteo Rwanda also warned that the consequences of this rainfall may include flooding swamps and lowlands, landslides, soil erosion and collapsing of slopes in areas not protected against erosion, as well as lightning-related incidents.
