Rwanda: Heavy rains expected in the final days of this year

The weather forecast for the third ten-day period of December 2025, from December 21 to 31, indicates that Rwanda will receive rainfall ranging between 20 and 100 millimeters.

This amount of rainfall is slightly above the normal average for this period, except for some areas of the Eastern Province where rainfall is expected to be within the normal range.

The average rainfall usually recorded during this period ranges between 20 and 75 millimeters. The number of rainy days is expected to be between three (3) and five (5), depending on local conditions.

The expected rainfall will result from the convergence of winds originating from the northern hemisphere and moving toward the region where Rwanda is located.

Rainfall ranging between 80 and 100 millimeters is expected in the Western Province, except for the Bugarama plain and small eastern parts of Ngororero District, the western parts of Muhanga and Ruhango districts, the northwestern parts of Burera District, as well as Musanze, Nyamagabe, and Nyaruguru districts, excluding their eastern parts.

Rainfall between 60 and 80 millimeters is forecast for the City of Kigali, western parts of Nyagatare and Bugesera districts, and the remaining areas of the Western, Southern, and Northern provinces, except for the eastern parts of Gicumbi District.

Rainfall between 40 and 60 millimeters is expected in Rwamagana District, the remaining parts of Gicumbi District, central areas of Bugesera District, small southern parts of Nyagatare District, western parts of Gatsibo and Kayonza districts, as well as the northwestern parts of Ngoma District.

The rest of the country is expected to receive rainfall ranging between 20 and 40 millimeters, as clearly illustrated by the weather forecast map.

METEO RWANDA advises the public, especially residents in areas forecast to experience thunderstorms and strong winds, to continue taking preventive measures against potential weather-related impacts and to follow guidance issued by relevant authorities.

Temperatures and wind speed are expected to remain within normal ranges across the country.
