Rwanda’s Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) has received a second cohort of 143 teachers from Zimbabwe, reinforcing a bilateral teacher exchange programme aimed at strengthening teaching capacity and improving learning outcomes across the country.
The teachers arrive under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2021 between the Governments of Rwanda and Zimbabwe, which provides for the exchange of qualified education professionals to address priority needs in both education systems.
Their deployment is expected to support key subject areas and contribute to Rwanda’s broader efforts to enhance the quality of education nationwide.
To ensure smooth integration and effective deployment, MINEDUC has organised an Orientation and Deployment Workshop scheduled for Monday, December 22, 2025, at Ntare Louisenlund School in Bugesera District.
Held under the theme “Cooperation for Enhancing Quality Education,” the workshop will bring together the newly arrived teachers and 157 Zimbabwean educators from the first cohort, who have been serving in Rwandan schools since 2022.
The orientation will familiarise participants with Rwanda’s education system, professional standards, and administrative procedures, while also addressing living and working conditions. It will further provide a platform for peer learning and engagement with key education stakeholders.
The Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, is expected to officiate the workshop as Guest of Honour.
The Minister is expected to highlight the contribution and impact of the first cohort, outline the rationale for recruiting the second cohort, and share the Ministry’s expectations as Rwanda continues to advance learner-centred, high-quality education.
Beyond classroom impact, the programme also underscores the strong partnership between Rwanda and Zimbabwe, promoting people-to-people cooperation and knowledge exchange between the two countries.
The Ministry of Education says the initiative reflects Rwanda’s continued commitment to innovative partnerships that strengthen human capital and deliver better learning outcomes for all learners.
