Modern Kimironko Market Construction Begins

Gasabo Investment Company Ltd has officially started construction of $100M Kimironko Commercial Complex, a game-changing project that will transform shopping, business, and urban living in Gasabo District at the site of former health center.

The project, part of the larger Kimironko Commercial Complex, aims to replace the old market and bus terminal with modern facilities that meet Kigali’s growing urban needs.

According to Gasabo Investment Company, which is leading the development, all traders currently working in the Kimironko Market and taxi park will be relocated into the new buildings once construction is complete.

The new market will feature over 250 commercial spaces, designed to accommodate existing vendors without drastically raising costs.

The upgraded complex will include a modern market, an improved taxi park, commercial floors, and parking areas, all intended to enhance business operations and improve the daily experience of both traders and customers.

Construction is officially underway and in just 16 months as groundbreaking ceremony was held on December 3rd, 2025.

The Kimironko Commercial Complex is a large-scale construction project initiated by Rwandan investors under Gasabo Investment Company, established in 2013.
Gasabo Investment Company purchased this land from Gasabo District in 2016 at a cost of 3.15 billion Rwandan francs.

Phase One: The New Kimironko Market

Phase one focuses on constructing the new modern market, which will be built on the site of the former health center.

The market building will have six floors. The first two floors will serve as parking areas for up to 400 vehicles.

The third floor will host the relocated Kimironko Market.

The fourth floor will house business support services such as banks, insurance firms, telecom companies, and other service providers.

The remaining two top floors will continue the market functions with sections dedicated to different categories of goods.

Shema Fabrice, the CEO of Gasabo Investment Company, told the Media that the project intends to transform Kimironko by delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure.

He explained that in the second phase—after relocating current traders from the old market and taxi park—a massive commercial building will rise, incorporating a modern bus terminal and business spaces.

“This second phase could cost more than $20 million. This will not be an ordinary taxi park; it will feature impressive architectural designs that match the city’s growth,” Shema said.

“Our project aligns with the vision of a sports-infrastructure-driven city. We don’t want someone leaving Zaria Court or Amahoro Stadium to feel like they’ve entered a different country when they arrive in Kimironko. The beauty must continue,” he added.

The construction of both the market and the taxi park is expected to exceed $45 million.

Phase Two (Starting 2028): Relocation and Major Expansion

The second phase includes relocating current businesses from the old market and taxi park—an activity expected to cost over $60 million and begin in 2028.

“This area will not only be for business; we will also build residential apartments and other sellable developments,” Shema added.

This phase will also feature new entertainment facilities and recreational infrastructure to serve both residents and visitors.

The completed complex will include a modern taxi park, the new market, commercial blocks, warehouses, an exhibition hall for industries based in Masoro, and parking space for up to 1,800 vehicles, among other facilities.

Selahattin Yetim, Managing Director of Abosskal Oferka JV Rwanda, the company responsible for construction, said they are proud to contribute to a project that will improve citizens’ livelihoods and are committed to delivering quality work.
