Kigali– Rwanda is hosting the 5th edition of the Renewable Energy for Sustainable Growth (RE4SG) Conference and Exhibition from September 8–12, 2025, bringing together global leaders, investors, innovators, and policymakers to chart Africa’s energy future.
Organized by the Energy Private Developers Association (EPD) in partnership with Strathclyde University and the Global Renewables Center (GRC), the event will run under the theme “Empowering Africa’s Energy Future: Innovation, Transition, and Sustainability.”
It will feature high-level discussions, exhibitions, technical workshops, and networking events at Norrsken House.
The conference comes at a pivotal moment as Rwanda pursues its ambitious National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) targets: achieving 100% electricity access by 2030, with at least 60% of power from renewable sources, and ensuring universal access to clean cooking solutions.
Rwanda also aims to cut emissions by 4.6 million tons of CO₂ equivalent and boost e-mobility adoption across motorcycles, business vehicles, and passenger cars.
At a continental level, the event will spotlight Mission 300, a joint initiative by the World Bank and the African Development Bank to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030.
Key themes of the Kigali gathering include:
Scaling clean energy access and rural electrification
Expanding renewable-powered agriculture and e-mobility
Exploring innovations such as hydrogen, nuclear, and advanced storage
Unlocking carbon markets and green finance for large-scale projects
Strengthening policy frameworks for sustainable and inclusive energy transition
Participants will include government officials, energy investors, researchers, development partners, civil society, entrepreneurs, and the media, all working to accelerate Africa’s green transition.
Exhibitions will showcase cutting-edge renewable solutions, while site visits will highlight Rwanda’s projects such as the Rusumo hydropower plant, methane gas power initiatives, and e-mobility assembly plants.
According to EPD, the conference will not only mobilize investments and business partnerships but also provide a platform for knowledge exchange, gender-inclusive energy solutions, and public awareness on the benefits of renewables.
With Africa still heavily reliant on traditional biomass and facing limited financing for clean energy, organizers believe Kigali’s RE4SG 2025 will be a catalyst for scaling innovation and building cross-border collaborations to secure a sustainable energy future for the continent.
