Former Kigali City Mayor Dr. Aisa Kirabo Passes Away

Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira has passed away on Tuesday 12th August after an illness. At the time of her death, she was serving as the Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS).

Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Kirabo served as Mayor of Kigali City, Rwanda’s Ambassador to Ghana, Deputy Executive Director and Assistant Secretary-General of UN-Habitat, and later as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General at UN-Habitat.

In her role as Head of UNSOS, Dr. Kirabo was responsible for providing critical logistical and operational support to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Her duties included coordinating the delivery of supplies, transport, engineering, medical services, communications, and security support for peacekeeping and humanitarian operations in Somalia.

She also oversaw the management of staff, budgetary planning, and partnerships with both Somali authorities and international stakeholders, ensuring that UN missions in Somalia could effectively carry out their mandate of promoting peace, stability, and development in the region.
